Deadline to request advisory appraisals is approaching

If you’re conducting a reassessment, and you expect to request a utility advisory appraisal, the deadline to submit Form RP-7021, Utility Advisory Appraisal Request, is 270 days prior to your tentative roll date (by August 1 for localities using the standard assessment calendar). Please include a request for each year of a reassessment cycle.

Superstorm Sandy exemption deadline extended

Last week, Governor Hochul signed legislation to extend the deadline to apply for the Superstorm Sandy property tax exemption. Chapter 235 of the Laws of 2022 extends the deadline by two years to March 1, 2024.

For more information:

  • read the press release, or
  • download Form RP-5850. (Note: The current version of the form includes the prior deadline in the instructions. We will let you know when the form is updated.)

Since the end of the legislative session, the Governor has signed six property tax-related bills into law (excluding single-parcel exemption bills). Stay up to date by visiting Current status of property tax-related legislation.

Reminder: Post and transmit your final rolls

RPTL 1590 gives you ten days from the publication of the roll to:

  • transmit your final roll to ORPTS, and
  • post the roll online and provide a link from your municipality’s homepage. If your city or town doesn’t have a website, you must arrange to have it posted on the county’s website.

Reminder: When properties sell

After a property sells, don’t forget to:

  • transmit the sale and any changes to ORPTS,
  • update your roll to reflect the sale inventory, and
  • update the IVP record to indicate the property was sold.
